I think it is much better to use and combine available knowledge and standards rather than reinvent it yourself. At the buildingSMART International summit in Oslo (hosted by buildingSMART Norge) we have worked together in a international, collaborative, respectful and professional way to improve the interoperability of software in the digital transformation of the built environment.

Digital data exchange for buildings and infrastructure like IFC and BCF are developed by the buildingSMART community. There is a long list of countries getting ready to accept these standards with their local mandate to exchange built asset data between the public and private sector. This make it able to use openBIM in for example Digital Building Permit and Legal processes. Most countries are now defining and publishing the minimum requirements for openBIM linked to their local building codes and culture.

The recently developed standard "IDS" (Information delivery specification) has been developed to specify some requirements for IFC data. First implementation (in software) of the use of this machine-readable requirements were demonstrated at the international summit. The results are very hopeful. Click here for the proces and sample files. Also very intresting for all users in the community of the BIM basis ILS/ BIM base IDS

In the Netherlands we are now working on a Data Space for the Built Environment (DSGO / DigiGo) in a co-creation program between the public and private sector. Different uses cases are being explored and tested in the first small steps to go to an open ecosystem for data sharing in the built environment.

Some of the use-/business cases where we are working on right now are adopting openBIM standards in data services in Building Permit and Legal processes. Besides the semantic- and information standards we are in the process of standardising APIs to enable data sharing .

For the latest state of our trust framework for data sharing in the Built Environment, (DSGO). I think we need to ensure alignment between the DSGO and buildingSMART International and are therefore very much open for further collaboration and maybe some participation in the API standard next year.
